Trendmicro's OfficeScan Corporate Edition 6.5 This is primarily an antivirus product, but as of 8/2005, has a minimal spy/adware component. With our reduced privileges on the workstations and ISA Server 2004, malicious websites just are not much of a problem. We have used the personal (free) products to clean up the handful of spyware infections to date (probably less than 10 out of 100 workstations in a year). This is a new treat vector and has changed dramatically in the last 12 months. The ONLY product I would use in a corporate environment (3/2005) is Sunbelt Counterspy. There is no single product for this type of malware.
Sunbelt Software's CounterSpy enterprise gets their spyware definitions from three sources. Their own research team, the threatnet community, and the definitions from Microsoft. Sunbelt gets these EXCLUSIVELY, no other tool get the MS spyware definitions.Webroot's Spysweeper another product that merits research.
I avoid these: Mcafee spyware, eTrust Pest Patrol (this is a Computer Associates product). I avoid CA products based on experiences with eTrust InocuLAN 6 and 6.5. Also ARCServe. See Small Businses Networking / Backups and Antivirus sections for details of my experiences. I have had two exposures to McAfee antivirus products and two dismal failures and many wasted hours.
