When I first started in IT tech support, I created a number of "cheat sheets" for myself (around 1993).  These had basic troubleshooting reminders for my own use.  Also, a few years back (around 2000) a few friends and acquaintances asked for my advice on various matters, so I made recommendations for their situation and e-mailed it to them.  I also started participating in newsgroups on the internet.  I found that the same questions were being asked and that I repeatedly sent the same types of advice.  So I went through my old notes, emails and newsgroup posts, updated the information and posted it here.

This website's function is two-fold, (1) to save time for myself - I now just update the text once and send the link and (2) I use it to organize my thoughts and make the available to myself when I'm away from the office.  Note that I work for an architectural/engineering firm and we have around 100 workstations with around 25 servers.  This is where I spend the bulk of my time, researching needs for this small business.  The advice that I give will be slanted towards this environment.

I originally created this website using Microsoft Notepad with no graphics.  I have used Microsoft Frontpage to create a website for an insurance agency, but I wanted to move away from this software.  I now use 1st Page 2000 to generate the HTML code (this is free software).   I have used a number of javascripts to help in document control (some included with 1st Page 2000).  These include The Table Sampler from Netscape and also quite a bit from W3 Schools in particular, the HTML examples.  I've also used the Javascript Mall for Webmasters.
